Cougars Set for Final Non-Conference Game at CSUSB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (2-3-1) will head to (RV) Cal State San Bernardino (2-0-2) to play its last non-conference game at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Premier Field.

LAST WEEK
  • CSUSM took a pair of home losses to tough PacWest opponents last week against Concordia University Irvine and Point Loma.
  • The Cougars fell 3-1 to the Golden Eagles last Wednesday. After a Vincent Acosta goal in the 40th minute, CUI responded with three unanswered goals late in the second half.
  • CSUSM was then shut out with a 2-0 loss to PLNU on Saturday as the Sea Lions scored goals late in the first and second halves.

SATURDAY AT SAN BERNARDINO

  • The Coyotes received votes in the latest iteration of the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll.
  • Before playing CSUSM on Sunday, CSUSB will head to Azusa Pacific for a 7:30 p.m. game on Friday.
  • Coming into this week, the Coyotes had a pair of 1-1 ties in their last two games against Colorado School of Mines and Biola.
  • CSUSB began the season with a 1-0 win at Point Loma before earning a 2-0 victory against Regis.
  • Nicklaus Sullivan leads the Coyotes with two goals, two assists and six points.
  • CSUSM is 2-7 in the all-time series against CSUSB with the last victory coming in a non-conference matchup last season in San Marcos against a Coyote team that was also receiving votes.
  • The Coyotes are a perfect 4-0 when playing the Cougars in San Marcos.
  • All but two games in the all-time series have been decided by one goal.
  • CSUSB was picked to finish fourth in the CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

2022 CSUSM MEN'S SOCCER NOTES

  • CSUSM's 2022 roster of 28 includes 16 returners, seven transfers and five freshmen.
  • The Cougars return three of their six goal scorers from last season in Riley Patterson, Curtis Collazos and Tristan Monroe.
  • In 2021, the Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 4-12-1.
  • CSUSM finished ninth in the CCAA standings with a 3-7-1 record.
  • The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in the 2022 CCAA Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • Starting this season, the NCAA has eliminated overtime periods from men's and women's soccer regular-season games. All games tied after 90 minutes will end in a draw.


THE PULVERS FILE

  • This season marks the 17th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
  • Pulvers has a 123-108-27 (.529) record as CSUSM's head men's coach.
  • In 26 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 249-179-41 (.575) career record.
  • He was 84-42-24 (.640) while in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
  • From 2006-13, Pulvers led both the CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams.
