SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (2-7, 1-1 CCAA) returns to The Sports Center this week for its first home CCAA matches of 2022. The Cougars host Cal State LA (7-3, 2-0 CCAA) on Thursday at 5 p.m. before taking on Cal State Dominguez Hill (3-6, 1-1 CCAA) at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
LAST WEEK
- The Cougars rebounded after being swept (17-25, 12-25, 18-25) by Sonoma State last Thursday with a sweep (25-16, 25-17, 25-7) of their own at Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday.
- In a set to 25, Humboldt's seven points in the third set were the fewest allowed by CSUSM in the NCAA Division II era.

CCAA HOME OPENER VS. CSULA
- The Golden Eagles got off to a hot start to the conference season with two wins at home last weekend. CSULA collected a four-set win (25-8, 25-22, 21-25, 25-13) last Friday against Stanislaus State before registering a sweep (25-16, 25-16, 25-15) over Chico State on Saturday.
- CSULA opened its season with a 2-2 record in the Western Washington Invitational, recording five-set victories over Ferris State and Simon Fraser and falling in four to Regis before ending the tournament with a three-set loss to host WWU.
- The Golden Eagles opened their own tournament with a four-set loss to Central Washington before recording three consecutive sweeps over Chaminade, Seattle Pacific and Biola.
- The Cougars have won three matches in nine meetings against the Golden Eagles and are 1-4 against CSULA when playing in The Sports Center. Their lone home victory was a sweep back in 2017.
- CSULA ranks 23rd in the nation (second in CCAA) in aces (91) with Iane Henke leading the Golden Eagles with a national ranking of 19 (also second in CCAA) with 23.
- The Golden Eagles were picked to finish second in the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll.

SATURDAY AGAINST CSUDH
- Prior to Saturday's match, the Toros will travel to Northern California to face Cal State East Bay on Thursday at 5 p.m.
- CSUSM holds an 8-4 record in the all-time series with CSUDH and is on a five-match win streak against the Toros.
- The Cougars defeated the Toros in their last meeting in The Sports Center by scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 26-24 on Oct. 8, 2019.
- The Toros began conference play with a four-set victory over Chico State on Thursday before falling to Stanislaus State in four sets on Saturday.
- CSUDH competed in the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational to start the season, going 2-1 with wins over Dominican and Academy of Art while falling to then-No. 23 Michigan Tech.
- In their own Toro Classic, CSUDH went 0-3 after facing Western Colorado, then-No. 25 Winona State and Stanislaus State.
- Angelina Robles is ranked fourth in the CCAA with 140 digs.
- CSUDH was selected to finish 11th out of 12 teams in the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll.
2022 CSUSM VOLLEYBALL NOTES
- The Cougars return two starters from the 2021 season - Kiora Ridgeway (MB) and Madison Turner (S).
- Eight will be donning Cougar Blue for the first time on Thursday with four being true freshmen and four transferring from a four-year college.
- The 2021 season ended with CSUSM making its fourth consecutive appearance in the CCAA Volleyball Tournament - the most by any CSUSM program that requires a qualification.
- The Cougars finished their 2021 campaign with a 12-13 overall record and 9-9 in CCAA play – sixth in the CCAA standings.
- As a team in the CCAA statistics, CSUSM concluded 2021 ranked fourth in digs per set (15.22) and fifth in kills per set (12.55) and blocks per set (1.88).
- San Francisco State transfer Trinity Barr is featured on the 2022 CCAA Preseason Watchlist after earning All-CCAA first team honors last season.
- In the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, the Cougars were picked to finish fourth.
THE LEONARD FILE
- Head coach Andrea Leonard enters her 12th season in charge of the Cougar volleyball team, a program she has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010.
- Leonard has a 190-136 (.583) record as CSUSM's head coach.
- In 17 seasons as a collegiate head volleyball coach, Leonard holds a 282-262 (.518) career record.
- Leonard was CSUSM's first-ever CCAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Cougars to a third-place finish in the overall standings during the 2017 season.
