SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team (1-0-1) will return to The Cage for a pair of matches this week as it faces No. 19 Azusa Pacific (1-0-0) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. before playing Regis (1-1) on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The time for Sunday's game against Regis was originally scheduled for 11 a.m. but was moved up to 9 a.m. due to the excessive heat in the forecast for this weekend.
LAST WEEK
- CSUSM began its season with a 1-0 win over San Diego Christian last Thursday as Ryan Meinardus scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 60th minute with a header off a corner kick from Vincent Saldivar.
- The Cougars followed that up with a 1-1 draw at Biola on Saturday night as Stefano Brunetto put CSUSM ahead early in the 16th minute with an assist from Diego Chavez.
- This is CSUSM's first 1-0-1 start since 2015.
- Head Coach Ron Pulvers notched his 248th career victory.

WEDNESDAY AGAINST APU
- Azusa began its season with a 4-3 win against Westminster last Thursday.
- Four different APU players scored the team's four goals while Tim Siegfried also tallied an assist in addition to his goal.
- Wednesday's game in San Marcos will be APU's first time playing a Division II opponent this season, and it will be its first road game.
- This will be APU's first trip to CSUSM since its initial visit in 2008. In that game, CSUSM earned its lone victory over APU in the seven meetings between the two squads with a 1-0 win.
- APU has a five-game winning streak against CSUSM with the last victory coming in 2021.
- APU was ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll and was picked to win the PacWest Conference this season after winning the league title for the third straight season in 2021.

FIRST MEETING WITH REGIS
- The Cougars and Rangers will meet for the very first time this weekend.
- Regis went 1-1 in its opening weekend with a 2-1 victory at Texas A&M International on Thursday before falling 4-0 to Midwestern State on Saturday.
- Prior to visiting San Marcos, the Rangers will travel to Cal State San Bernardino on Thursday.
- Regis was picked to finish fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Preseason Poll.

2022 CSUSM MEN'S SOCCER NOTES
- CSUSM's 2022 roster of 28 includes 16 returners, seven transfers and five freshmen.
- The Cougars return three of their six goal scorers from last season in Riley Patterson, Curtis Collazos and Tristan Monroe.
- In 2021, the Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 4-12-1.
- CSUSM finished ninth in the CCAA standings with a 3-7-1 record.
- The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in the 2022 CCAA Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Starting this season, the NCAA has eliminated overtime periods from men's and women's soccer regular-season games. All games tied after 90 minutes will end in a draw.

- This season marks the 17th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
- Pulvers has a 122-105-27 (.533) record as CSUSM's head men's coach.
- In 26 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 248-176-41 (.577) career record.
- He was 84-42-24 (.640) while in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
- From 2006-13, Pulvers led both the CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams.
