SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (0-1) dropped a four-set decision (19-25, 25-16, 15-25, 14-25) to No. 4 MSU Denver (1-0) on Thursday night in the Cougar Classic opener in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The match started off very tight until the nine-point mark when the Roadrunners rattled off five consecutive points.
- The Cougars were able to close the gap to within three points four times before MSUD concluded the first set at 25-19.
- In the second set, the Cougars took a 6-4 lead on a Kiora Ridgeway ace.
- CSUSM recorded five unanswered points to take a 19-12 lead before capping it off at 25-16 on a MSUD error to even the match at 1-1.
- The Cougars racked up a .448 clip with 15 kills on 29 attempts and only two errors in the second set.
- The Roadrunners wasted no time in the third set, jumping out to a 6-1 lead before cruising to a 25-15 victory to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
- MSUD tallied 13 kills, five blocks and three aces in the fourth set to claim a 25-14 win and season opener victory.
