SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team will start its 2022 season by hosting San Diego Christian on Thursday at 3 p.m. at The Cage before heading to Biola on Saturday at 7 p.m.

KICKING OFF 2022

• CSUSM's 2022 roster of 28 includes 16 returners, seven transfers and five freshmen.
• The Cougars return three of their six goal scorers from last season in Riley Patterson, Curtis Collazos and Tristan Monroe.
• In 2021, the Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 4-12-1.
• CSUSM finished ninth in the CCAA standings with a 3-7-1 record.
• The Cougars were picked to finish 11th in the 2022 CCAA Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
• Starting this season, the NCAA has eliminated overtime periods from men's and women's soccer regular-season games. All games tied after 90 minutes will end in a draw.

SEASON OPENER AGAINST SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN

• CSUSM is 8-0 in the all-time series against SDCC.
• The Cougars and Hawks last faced each other in 2015 in El Cajon and saw CSUSM come away with a 2-0 win.
• CSUSM has outscored SDCC 29-5 since the beginning of the series in 2006.
• The Cougars are 4-0 when playing the Hawks in San Marcos.
• SDCC has earned a draw in each of its first two games this season with a 1-1 tie against Soka and a 2-2 tie against Saint Katherine.
• The Hawks finished last season with an overall record of 5-10-2 and a 2-6 conference record.
• SDCC leading scorer Paul Anderson returns this season after scoring a team-high 10 goals and 23 points last year.

SATURDAY AT BIOLA

• CSUSM will be Biola's first opponent of the 2022 season on Saturday.
• The Cougars and Eagles are knotted up at 5-5-3 in the all-time series and are 3-3-1 when playing in La Mirada.
• Biola is currently on a two-game winning streak against CSUSM after taking a 1-0 victory against the Cougars in 2021 in San Marcos.
• Biola finished last year with an overall record of 11-7 and finished third in the PacWest with a record of 7-3.
• The Eagles qualified for the 2021 NCAA Championships but exited the first round after taking a 5-0 loss to Cal Poly Pomona.
• Biola returns five of its six leading scorers from 2021 in Theo Le Calve, Adam Jones, Aidan Hill, Oscar Rubalcava and Izaac Zausch.

• This season marks the 17th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
• Pulvers has a 121-105-26 (.532) record as CSUSM's head men's coach.
• In 26 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 247-176-40 (.577) career record.
• He was 84-42-24 (.640) while in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
• From 2006-13, Pulvers led both the CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams.
