SAN MARCOS, Calif. –  The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team (7-14, 6-8 CCAA) will wrap up its final regular-season road trip schedule this weekend, traveling to Cal State Dominguez Hills (4-17, 2-12 CCAA) on Friday, Oct. 28 for a 5 p.m. match before slipping over to Cal State LA (17-5, 12-2 CCAA) on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a 2 p.m. match. 

LAST WEEK

• CSUSM went 1-1 in CCAA action last week. 
• The Cougars completed a series sweep over Chico State last Friday after taking three straight sets (25-13, 25-15, 25-19) from the Wildcats in The Sports Center. 
• CSUSM dropped a heartbreaking five-set match (20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 6-15) the next day to Stanislaus State. 
• The Cougars are eighth in the CCAA standings, two games back from San Francisco State who is in seventh place and three behind Stanislaus State and Sonoma State who are tied for fifth . 
• The top six teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the CCAA Tournament which CSUSM is hosting Nov. 10-12 in The Sports Center.

FRIDAY AT CSUDH

• The Toros have lost 12 of their last 13 games with the lone win coming against Cal Poly Humboldt on Oct. 15 in the Torodome. 
• CSUDH is 10th in the conference standings and has already been eliminated from the 2022 CCAA Tournament. 
• The Toros faced two nationally-ranked teams last weekend, suffering a sweep at then-No. 15 Cal State San Bernardino on Friday before falling in four sets at then-No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona the next day. 
• CSUDH is 10th in the CCAA in hitting percentage (.145) and kills per set (10.60).
• Earlier this season, the Cougars defeated the Toros in four sets (10-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-20) in The Sports Center. 
• CSUSM is 9-4 in the all-time series against CSUDH and 3-3 when playing in the Torodome. 
• The Cougars have been victorious in the last six meeting with the Toros. 
• Freshman outside hitter Ava Hurry is leading the CSUDH offense this season with a 2.33 kills per set average. 
• The Wildcats were voted to finish 11th in the 2022 CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll.

CSULA ON SATURDAY

• Prior to facing the Cougars, the Golden Eagles will host Cal State East Bay on Friday
• CSULA is the only team to have clinched a spot in the 2022 CCAA Tournament. 
• The Golden Eagles are coming off a 1-1 weekend that featured a sweep at then-No. 17 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday before being swept by then-No. 15 Cal State San Bernardino on Saturday night. 
• CSULA is second in the CCAA in aces per set (2.10) with Iane Henke having the second-highest average in the conference at 0.58.  
• The Cougars dropped three straight (16-25, 19-25, 22-25) against Cal State LA on Sept. 15 in The Sports Center. 
• CSUSM is 3-10 in the all-time series against the Golden Eagles and is 2-5 when playing in LA. 
• CSULA was selected to finish second in the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll. 

    

2022 CSUSM VOLLEYBALL NOTES

• The Cougars return two starters from the 2021 season - Kiora Ridgeway (MB) and Madison Turner (S). 
• Eight will be donning Cougar Blue for the first time on Thursday with four being true freshmen and four transferring from a four-year college. 
• The 2021 season ended with CSUSM making its fourth consecutive appearance in the CCAA Volleyball Tournament - the most by any CSUSM program that requires a qualification. 
• The Cougars finished their 2021 campaign with a 12-13 overall record and 9-9 in CCAA play – sixth in the CCAA standings. 
• As a team in the CCAA statistics, CSUSM concluded 2021 ranked fourth in digs per set (15.22) and fifth in kills per set (12.55) and blocks per set (1.88). 
• San Francisco State transfer Trinity Barr is featured on the 2022 CCAA Preseason Watchlist after earning All-CCAA first team honors last season. 
• In the 2022 CCAA Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, the Cougars were picked to finish fourth.

THE LEONARD FILE

• Head coach Andrea Leonard enters her 12th season in charge of the Cougar volleyball team, a program she has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010.
• Leonard has a 195-143 (.577) record as CSUSM's head coach.
• In 19 seasons as a collegiate head volleyball coach, Leonard holds a 287-269 (.516) career record.
• Leonard was CSUSM's first-ever CCAA Coach of the Year after guiding the Cougars to a third-place finish in the overall standings during the 2017 season.
