CARSON, Calif. – A free-kick goal in overtime by 
Sierra Moore gave the Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team a 1-0 non-conference victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills in its season opener on Sunday afternoon at Toro Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
	- After 45 minutes, the Cougars and Toros remained scoreless with each side taking four shots and one shot on goal.
 
	- In the 69th minute, a pivotal free kick by CSUDH from just outside of the box was blocked by a pack of CSUSM defenders.
 
	- The Toros had a chance to break the tie in the 80th minute as Ivette Felix took a clear, close-range shot from the left side that went wide right.
 
	- In the 98th minute, CSUSM was awarded a free kick 15 yards outside the box on the top left side. A long shot by Moore sailed over the Toro keeper and into the top right corner of the net for the game winner and her first career goal.

	- CSUSM begins the 2021 campaign at 1-0 while CSUDH falls to 0-1.
 
	- The Cougars took the lead in the all-time series at 5-4-1 and are now 4-4 in Carson.
 
	- This was CSUSM's first-ever overtime victory against CSUDH.
 
	- The Cougars are now 10-2-3 all-time in season openers and are still undefeated in the NCAA Division II era.
 
	- Three of the last four overtime victories for CSUSM have come off a free kick with the last happening in 2019 against Chico State.
 
	- The Toros ended the game with a slight advantage in shots at 10-8, but the Cougars had the advantage in shots on goal at 3-2.
