SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Eager to begin a new season, Cal State San Marcos Men's Soccer Head Coach Ron Pulvers announced his squad's 2021 schedule on Thursday.
"Excited doesn't begin to describe the feelings surrounding the program at the moment," Pulvers said. "It's a terrific schedule with a lot of familiar opponents. We had a ton of momentum in Spring 2020 prior to COVID, and that enthusiasm has been bottled for 18 months. The main thing is to get back to the training ground and take it one training session at a time."
The Cougars will begin their 2021 season with five consecutive road games at Biola (Sept. 2), Azusa Pacific (Sept. 4), Fresno Pacific (Sept. 11), Point Loma (Sept. 16) and Concordia University Irvine (Sept. 18). CSUSM's lone non-conference home game will take place on Sept. 25 against CCAA foe Cal State San Bernardino.
CSUSM will get its CCAA schedule underway on the road at Humboldt State and Chico State on Oct. 1 and 3. The Cougars will return to The Cage for their first CCAA home games against Sonoma State and San Francisco State on Oct. 8 and 10. After a midweek drive up to Cal State LA on Oct. 14, CSUSM will return to San Marcos on Oct. 17 to host Cal Poly Pomona. The Cougars will travel to Northern California once again for a pair of games on Oct. 22 and 24 at Stanislaus State and Cal State East Bay before returning to The Cage to host Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State Dominguez Hills in CSUSM's final home games on Oct. 29 and Oct. 31. The regular season will come to an end at Cal State San Bernardino on Nov. 4.
Should CSUSM qualify for the 2021 CCAA Tournament, they'll play a first-round game at a to-be-determined campus site on Nov. 7. The winner of that contest will move on to Los Angeles, where the semifinals and finals of the CCAA Tournament will take place on Nov. 12 and 14.
