Cougars Host Otters, Toros in Final Regular-Season Home Games

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men’s soccer team (3-10-1, 2-5-1 CCAA) will wrap up its home schedule this weekend by playing Cal State Monterey Bay (6-3-5, 2-3-3 CCAA) on Friday at 3 p.m. and Cal State Dominguez Hills (8-3-1, 6-2-0 CCAA) on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Prior to its final home contest against the Toros, CSUSM will honor seniors Danny Alvarez and Jacob Cuccia.

LAST WEEKEND

  • The Cougars went 1-1 last weekend with a 1-0 loss at Stanislaus State before earning three points with a 1-0 win at Cal State East Bay.
  • With seven points, the Cougars are currently tied with Sonoma State for eighth in the CCAA standings.

COUGARS BY THE NUMBERS

  • CSUSM has the fifth-most saves per game in the CCAA at 4.21 per game and the sixth-best save percentage at .738.
  • Tristan Monroe’s two game-winning goals rank third in the CCAA.

  • Sulaiman Bah and Brandon Lee lead the Toros’ offense with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
  • Toro keeper Dylan De Baldo ranks 11th nationally with a .841 save percentage.
  • CSUSM is 2-6 in the all-time series against CSUDH and is 1-1 at home.

COUGAR OUTLOOK

  • With the 2020 and 2021 newcomers combined, the Cougars have 16 players wearing a CSUSM uniform for the first time.
  • The Cougars have 13 returners from the 2019 squad and are fronted by forward Juan Camilo Salazar, who led the Cougars with six goals, 13 points and a season-record 64 shots.

THE PULVERS FILE

  • This season marks the 16th season for head coach Ron Pulvers at CSUSM.
  • Pulvers has a 120-103-26 (.534) record as CSUSM's head men's coach.
  • In 24 seasons as a collegiate head men's soccer coach, Pulvers holds a 246-174-40 (.578) career record.
  • He was 84-42-24 (.640) while in charge of the CSUSM women's program.
  • From 2006-13, Pulvers led both the CSUSM men's and women's soccer teams.
