HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the first half winding down, the Cougars were awarded a corner. From the right side, Salazar's kick found the head of Monroe, who headed the ball into the top left corner of the net from six yards out and gave CSUSM a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute.
- The Pioneers tried to make a game of it in the second half with an 8-7 shot advantage and a 4-2 upper hand for corner kicks, but the Cougars' defense stood firm for the remaining 45 minutes.
