CHICO, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos' Matt Pennington put together an incredible performance to earn this week's CCAA Men's Golfer of the Week honor.
 
Pennington shot a tournament-low 5-under 67 in the final round of the Cal State Monterey Bay Otter Invitational on Tuesday to win medalist honors.
 
The Cougar from Carlsbad was the only player to shoot under-par for the 54-hole event at the Bayonet Golf Course in Seaside. Pennington totaled a 3-under 213 to win by four strokes over Chico State's Christopher Colla.
 
Pennington, who had eight birdies, was one of three players to shoot 5-under on Tuesday. The win was Pennington's first collegiate tournament victory.
 
This marks CSUSM's ninth conference weekly honor and second men's golf nod in the 2021-22 season. Teammate Matthew Moss joined women's cross country runner Renee Laurenzana and women's golfer Diana Delgado on collecting the weekly honor the week of Oct. 13. Men's cross country runner Shea Vavra and women's golfer Breann Horn are CSUSM's only two repeat award winners so far this fall. Volleyball middle blocker Kassy Doering was the first honoree in program's history.
 
The Cougars completed their fall season and will resume play on Feb. 14 when they host the CSUSM Fujikura Invitational at Shadowridge in Vista.
