SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Junior
Akayla Hackson of the Cal State San Marcos women's basketball team was named to the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District first team on Thursday.
Â
The Academic All-District Women's Basketball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Â
Majoring in computer science with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.88, Hackson was one of five women's basketball student-athletes to earn the honor in District 8, which is composed of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) and the PacWest Conference.
Â
This season, Hackson has played a team-leading 844 minutes while also leading the team in blocked shots (20) and steals (33). She's averaging 11.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game. Hackson's 20 blocked shots ranks her fifth in the CCAA. Â
Â
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-March.
Â
Having already secured one of the top four seeds in the CCAA Tournament, Hackson and the second-place Cougars will continue the regular season at Cal State Monterey Bay this evening at 5:30 p.m. in Seaside.
