CSUSM Falls 2-0 to No. 1 UCSD

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team took a 2-0 loss to No. 1 UC San Diego in non-conference play on Thursday afternoon at The Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tussling for possession in the box after a Triton free kick from 30 yards out, UCSD's Natalie Saddic finally gained control. Saddic then put the ball into upper left corner of the net from just in front of the penalty kick marker to put the Tritons up 1-0 in the 19th minute.
  • Just in front of the UCSD bench, the Tritons' Natalie Widmer tossed a long throw-in to Mika Celeste. About 10 yards in front of the box on the right side, Celeste's shot sailed into the upper left corner of the net to put UCSD up 2-0 in the 52nd minute.
  • The Cougars' lone shot on goal came on a free kick from Aluli in the 56th minute. Taking the kick from just outside of the box, Aluli aimed the shot into the right corner of the goal, but Triton keeper Angelica Ramos made the save.
 
QUICK KICKS
  • CSUSM drops to 1-2-1 on the year while UCSD improved to 5-0.
  • The Tritons narrowly outshot the Cougars by an 8-7 margin while holding a 7-6 advantage on corner kicks.
  • CSUSM took six shots in the second half compared to UCSD's two.
  • The Cougars had five players in for the entire 90 minutes.

CSUSM will play its final non-conference game on Saturday as it travels to Biola for a 7 p.m. kickoff in La Mirada.
