Pulvers Adds Six to 2019 Recruiting Class

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Cal State San Marcos men's soccer head coach Ron Pulvers announced the addition of six more student-athletes to the team's 2019 recruiting class on Wednesday.

"After a long and well thought out process, we have added the final pieces to our 2019 incoming class," Pulvers said. "Similar to the initial group of commitments, these six student-athletes fit our culture and characterize our core values. We are confident they will represent our university, academically, athletically and civilly, with behaviors of excellence. They join our exceptionally talented early commitments to form an outstanding class."

Aaron Alvarez
Midfielder | San Diego, California

About Alvarez
"Aaron is a local talent for San Diego Surf USSDA and somebody who we have had our eye on for a long time. One of the most versatile players of this recruiting class, Aaron brings to the game a very high work rate and soccer IQ. He likes to solve the game's problems with quick passing combinations and intense pressing, so it is easy to understand why we think Aaron fits perfectly within our style of play. Wherever Aaron ends up playing, we trust him to bring an elegance and tenacity that will help us reach our performance outcome goals."

Brian Chung
Midfielder | Los Alamitos, California

About Chung
"Our latest commitment, we believe Brian has the capability of being the biggest 'hidden gem' of the group if you can call a key midfielder for Strikers FC USSDA a 'hidden gem.' Brian goes about his role quietly but with a fierce toughness and diverse set of technical qualities. He is a versatile player that we believe can impact our team in several positions this fall. Add to that a maturity and studious personality, Brian is bound for great things as a student-athlete at CSUSM."

Angel Flores
Forward | Carlsbad, California

About Flores
"Angel has been on our radar ever since he was a little kid playing on the local club teams. We tracked him as he made his way to San Diego Surf USSDA, where he has been a standout forward ever since. A gifted player blessed with second to none creativity and goal scoring instincts, Angel is also deceivingly strong and athletic. These traits, combined with our style of play, have the potential to be devastating to our opponents' defenses. We cannot wait to slot Angel into our forward rotation and unleash him on the conference."

Richie Humphreys
Wing | Santa Monica, Calif.

About Humphreys
"Richie played for the highly successful club team Strikers FC South Bay Gold '00 and is coming to us after taking a gap year. He initially impressed us after playing a major role in his team's Surf Cup championship run versus Aaron and Angel's Surf DA team. Richie then trained with us and it was clear that he was a player we needed to get. He is an ambidextrous and direct winger/forward player that uses powerful athletic ability and quick feet to blow past his opponents. We are anxious to get Richie on campus and see what he can achieve."

Cameron Smith
Center Back | Highland, Calif.

About Smith
"Cameron is our only transfer of this class and comes to us after playing a year at San Bernardino Valley College, where he transferred to from Point Loma. He is a highly intelligent ball-playing center back and it was immediately evident after seeing him train with us. Coupled with elite athleticism, leadership and a willingness to learn, Cameron has the potential to be a big-time impact player for us. Every time we meet Cameron we come away impressed with something new, and we can't wait to add him to our roster this season."

Corbin Thaete
Left Back | Yorba Linda, Calif.

About Thaete
"Corbin is a left back from Strikers FC that we identified at last year's Academy Summer Showcase. It didn't take us long to become admirers of his game and watching him again numerous times over the next few months cemented it even more. We were ecstatic when he decided to commit before Christmas because we feel Corbin is a true gift to our program. He has played left back for Strikers FC USSDA U-18/19 for the past two years, so we know he is ready to make an immediate impact with his box-to-box attacking and hard-nosed defending. Arguably, more important is how Corbin exudes the behavioral traits and academic profile that we build our program on. It is for these reasons why we believe Corbin is going to be a gem of a student-athlete for us."
