HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 18-9 at one point in the opening set, the Cougars charged back to cut the gap to 23-21 on a block by Newcombe and Mackenzie Jennings before CSULA took its final timeout. The Golden Eagles claimed the first set at 25-22.
- A 7-1 CSULA run broke a 12-12 tie, but once again, the Cougars fought back to make it 24-23 before the Golden Eagles claimed the set at 25-23.
- Back-to-back CSULA hitting errors gave CSUSM a 19-18 lead in the third set. The Cougars extended their lead to 21-18 with consecutive kills by Vander Weide and Newcombe. A pair of blocks clinched the 25-20 victory for CSUSM to force a fourth set.
- The Cougars tallied a match-low eight kills in the fourth set, falling 25-18 as the Golden Eagles clinched the match victory.
