CSUSM Extends Home Win Streak to Nine with Sweep Over CSUMB

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team remained undefeated at home with a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) sweep over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon in The Sports Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Back-to-back blocks by Maddy Newcombe and Wheaton put CSUSM up 6-5 in the opening set.
  • The Cougars recorded a 25-20 victory in the first set after registering five blocks including solos by Newcombe and Hébert.
  • Consecutive kills by Aguilar gave CSUSM a 14-11 lead in the second set. The Cougars stayed on top from then on to collect a 25-23 victory.
  • After trailing 3-0 in the third set, the Cougars put together a six-point run. CSUSM held on to win the third set at 25-19.
 
QUICK HITS
  • The Cougars improve to 9-6 (3-3 CCAA) while the Otters drop to 5-10, 1-7 CCAA.
  • Including 2018's final two home victories, the Cougars extended their home win streak to a program-best nine.
  • CSUSM tallied a season-bests in 17 blocks and five solo blocks.
  • The Cougars' 17 blocks are a program-best in a three-set match.
  • Aguilar notched her second double-double of the season with 14 kills and 10 digs. Her earlier double-double was against Bentley in the Cougar Classic.
  • CSUSM continues to hold the advantage in The Sports Center against the Otters with a 2-0 lead in the series while taking a 3-2 lead in the all-time series.

The Cougars play three matches in five days next week beginning with a trip to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Tuesday. First serve is at 7 p.m.
