Cougars Drop Midweek Bout to Tritons

LA JOLLA, Calif. – After two second-half goals by UC San Diego, the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team took a 2-0 loss in Wednesday night's California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) matchup at Triton Soccer Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams played to a 0-0 halftime score with UCSD owning a 6-3 shot advantage. The Tritons had the lone shot on goal in the first half.
  • In the 50th minute, the Tritons intercepted a Cougar throw in. A pass from Brett Jones at the top left corner of the box went to Jonathan Sabouri, who was just in front of the net. Off his right foot, Sabouri found the bottom right corner and put UCSD up 1-0.
  • The Tritons went up 2-0 in the 69th minute off a shot from Shaheen Daneshvar. His shot off the left foot found its way into the bottom right corner of the goal from 19 yards out.

  • CSUSM falls to 5-8-2 (3-4-2 CCAA) while UCSD improves to 12-3 (7-2 CCAA).
  • The Tritons held a 16-7 shot advantage while putting four shots on goals to the Cougars' three.
  • UCSD had the slight advantage with corner kicks at 4-3.
  • The Cougars experienced another physical contest as both sides combined for 33 total fouls.
