ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team came up just short to No. 15 Sonoma State on Friday afternoon, falling 3-1 and 4-2 at Seawolf Softball Field in a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) match-up.

Karla Bernal and freshman
Jaqlyn Newhouser each had two hits and a RBI on the day.
CSUSM (3-16, 2-15 CCAA) and Sonoma State (16-6, 12-4 CCAA) will wrap up its four-game series with a 11 a.m. twinbill on Saturday, March 10.
GAME 1: SSU 3 – CSUSM 1
SSU's Alyssa Cuffia hit a three-run homer in the first inning to put the Seawolves on top early.
In the fourth inning, sophomore
Abby Callais hit a one-out single to the shortstop and advanced to second on Newhouser's single to center field. After both runners moved 60 feet on a sacrifice bunt by junior
Kammy Fisher, Bernal tapped a single to the left side of the infield to score Callais and make it 3-1.
Junior
Karen Roman (0-5) took the loss after five innings in the circle. She gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out one. Junior
Skie Munoz tossed one hitless inning in relief.
Going four innings, SSU's Brigid Ruiz (6-2) recorded the win after a one-run, five-hit performance in the circle. Teresa Danenberg threw three-shutout innings for the save.
GAME 2: SSU 4 – CSUSM 2
SSU once again got out to a quick lead with Karla Macadangdang recording a two-run homer in the first, followed by a RBI single in the second inning. Cuffia's solo home run in the third inning made it a 4-0 ballgame.
CSUSM drew back-to-back walks in the top of the fourth inning to set up Newhouser to drive in a run with a single to left field.
In the sixth, freshman
Raven LeClair hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate senior
Lindsay Cerulle who was pinch running for Fisher after she drew a leadoff walk.
Junior
Caitlin Vinyard (2-8) was handed the loss after two innings, relinquishing four runs on five hits. Freshman
Carly Slack threw four shutout innings, allowing only four hits and no walks.
SSU's Brielle Vidmar (7-2) earned the win after four innings, giving up one run on three hits. Danenberg collected her second save of the day after three innings of work.
