CHICO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team fell 4-0 and 7-1 to No. 21 Chico State in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) action on Saturday at Wildcat Softball Field.
Freshmen
Raven LeClair and
Janaea Mason each tallied two hits on the day as CSUSM falls to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in conference play. The Wildcats improve to 12-0, 8-0 CCAA.
The Cougars will look to bounce back next week when they travel to UC San Diego on Friday to begin a four-game series. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
GAME 1: Chico State 4 – CSUSM 0
The Wildcats scored all four runs in their final two innings.
Bailey Akins drove in the first Chico State run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth. The final two Wildcat runs came in the sixth inning on Wendy Cardinali's 2-RBI double who later scored on Ari Marsh's single.
CSUSM's lone hit of the game came in the fourth on
Melody Forstie's one-out infield single.
Junior
Caitlin Vinyard (1-3) gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out three in the contest. Chico State's Haley Graham (7-0) allowed just one hit and struck out 11 in her seven innings in the circle.
GAME 2: Chico State 7 – CSUSM 1
CSUSM jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning with LeClair leading things off with a single to center field. She advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Calderon and a wild pitch. Freshman
Jaqlyn Newhouser drove LeClair home on a single through the left side.
The Wildcats evened the game on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the second.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Chico State put together six runs on four hits and a CSUSM error to take a 7-1 lead.
CSUSM tallied seven hits in the game while Chico State finished with eight.
