SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos softball team split a California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) doubleheader against Stanislaus State to close out the 2017 home schedule, Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field. The Cougars fell to the Warriors game one by a score of 5-3. CSUSM bounced back with a 5-2 win in the second game. Senior Day ceremonies were held prior to the start of the doubleheader with

Breanna Fulton being honored.
With the split, CSUSM now sports a 9-35 overall record and 8-27 in conference record. Stan State is 23-28 overall and 13-23 in the CCAA.
The Cougars will play their final games of the 2017 season with a four-game series at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday and Saturday, April 28-29. Friday's doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and Saturday at noon.
Game One - Stanislaus State 5, Cal State San Marcos 3
CSUSM couldn't hang on to an early two-run lead and fell to Stan State by a score of 5-3.
Dagenais (2-16) was credited with the loss in seven innings of work. The win went to Warrior pitcher Megan Stacy who came in relief and pitched 6.2 frames of shutout ball. Horbasch went 2-for-3 from the plate with one run. Junior infielder
Heather Rygg a hit, a run and a RBI.
Stan State struck in the first inning with an RBI single from Ruby Quiralte. The Cougars answered with three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-1 lead. Fauria singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from junior outfielder
Lindsay Cerulle and took third on Horbasch's hit to lef field. An illegal pitch advanced Fauria to home and Horbasch to second. Rygg doubled to right center to plate Horbasch and came in on a hit up the middle from freshman designated player
Melody Forstie.
The Warriors evened the score in the top of the second, 3-3, with back-to-back RBI singles from Alexus Martinez and Cassidy Duke. Duke hit another RBI single in the fourth inning as Stan State took the lead. A successful double steal with runners on first and third gave Stan State a 5-3 advantage.
CSUSM was limited to only one hit in the final four frames.
Game Two - Cal State San Marcos 5, Stanislaus State 2
CSUSM turned around a 2-0 deficit with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 5-2 win over Stan State.
Horbasch (5-11) took the win in seven innings of work. The loss went to Warrior pitcher Kylie Ragsdale (12-10). Fauria went 2-for-3 from the plate with one run. Rygg and Forstie each compiled one hit, one run and one RBI.
After a scoreless first three innings, Stan State broke the game open with two runs in the top of the fourth as Madison Mayol hit a two-run double to left center.
The Cougars waited until the bottom of the sixth to make a move. Fauria and Cerulle hit back-to-back singles to occupy first and second. A successful double steal moved the pair to second and third. Horbasch drew a walk in the next at bat to load the bases. CSUSM would get four straight RBI singles, two of them on bunts, from Rygg, Forstie, freshman outfielder
Sara Whelehon and junior catcher
Karla Bernal for the lead. With the bases still juiced, sophomore infielder
Amanda Lejano hit into a double play, but was still able to bring in Forstie as the Cougars took a 5-2 lead into the final frame.
CSUSM gave up a leadoff single to Nicolette Vizcaino, but were able to retire the next three Warriors in order to prevail.
