SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State San Marcos softball team was swept by No. 25 California Baptist in a non-conference doubleheader, Friday at CSUSM Softball Field. The Cougars fell by scores of 5-4 in game one and 3-0 in game two.
The Cougars drop to 7-24 overall. The Lancers improve to 26-7 overall.
CSUSM will play another non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 at Concordia University Irvine starting at 12 p.m.
Game One - California Baptist 5, Cal State San Marcos 4
With the game even at 4-4, CBU got the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh to take down CSUSM 5-4. Lancer pitcher Kellye Springstead (8-2) earned the win throwing six innings, giving up one run and striking out four. Senior pitcher

Cheyenne Alvarez (2-3) pitched the last three. Junior catcher
Heather Rygg compiled two hits and three RBI in the game.
CBU got on the scoreboard in the first inning with an RBI double from Brittany Galvez. The Lancers scored three runs in the top of the fourth, thanks to two Cougar errors, to make it a 4-0 game.
CSUSM responded in the bottom of the fourth with one run. Senior outfielder
Holly Fauria and Rygg hit consecutive singles. Fauria came home on an RBI single up the middle from freshman outfielder
Sara Whelehon. The Cougars tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with three runs. With the bases loaded, Rygg blasted a 3-RBI triple to right field to bring in Fauria, junior outfielder

Melody Forstie, who came in to pinch run.
With two outs in the top of the seventh, CBU's Alley Johnson hit an RBI single to left field for the go-ahead run.
Game Two - California Baptist 3, Cal State San Marcos 0
CBU pitcher Ciara Stapp (9-3) threw a complete game shutout as CSUSM was defeated by a score of 3-0. Stapp amassed eight strikeouts. Senior pitcher
Ashley Dagenais (1-10) took the loss as she also pitched seven innings and struck out five.
Krista Mann put the Lancers on the scoreboard in the second with a double off the center field wall to plate Subia. CBU added one in the fourth inning with a Caitlyn Lloyd RBI single up the middle. The Lancers got an insurance run in the sixth as Mann homered to account for the final score of the game.
The Cougars could only muster four hits in the contest with two from Fauria, one from Rygg and one from Horbasch.
