TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team took down Stanislaus State, 96-79, in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference action on Friday night.
CSUSM shot 63.8 percent (30-of-47) for the game including 16-of-26 (61.5 percent) from the perimeter. The defense was just as stellar for CSUSM, limiting the Warriors to 43.9 percent (29-of-66) shooting for the game and just 10-of-30 from behind the arc.
The Cougars improve to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in CCAA play following the win while Stanislaus drops to 9-4, 5-3 CCAA.
Making his first start of the season, junior
Bear Henderson scored a team-high 25 points including seven made 3-pointers in 31 minutes while senior
Ethan Alvano recorded his second double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 assists. Classmate
Josh Spiers added 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field and seven rebounds.
The Cougars outrebounded Stanislaus, 31-28, for the game and forced 10 turnovers out of the Warriors. Senior
Brian Wright collected a team-high three steals.
Stanislaus State was led by Kaelen Mitchell who finished with a team-high 14 points for the game. The Warriors outscored CSUSM 36-22 on points in the paint and 44-10 in bench points for the game.
CSUSM closes out the 2017 calendar year with a matchup against CCAA opponent, San Francisco State, on Sunday, Dec. 31 inside The Sports Center. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
