SAN DIEGO – The Cal State San Marcos women's soccer team fell, 1-0, to No. 3 UC San Diego in the semifinals of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament on Friday, Nov. 3 at Triton Soccer Stadium.
UCSD's Maddy Samilo scored in the 67th minute on a cross whipped in from the combination of touches from Summer Bales and Caitlin McCarthy.
CSUSM will have to wait until the official NCAA Regional field is announced on Monday at 3 p.m. For now, the Cougars fall to 8-7-3 overall. UCSD improves to 14-2-2 following the win.
The Cougars totaled 10 shots for the match while the Tritons were able to compile 13 shots and edged the Cougars in corner kicks, 2-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Yesenia Betancourt made three saves in the match. Senior
Kayla Anderson led the team with four shots and two on goal.
The Cougars best chance to score came in the 63rd minute when Anderson chipped the ball over Triton goalkeeper Angelica Ramos, but a great save by defender, Natalie Saddic, kept the ball from crossing the goal line.
