SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's cross country will be the first program in school history to make an appearance in the NCAA Division II National Championships this Saturday.The CSUSM volleyball team begins its quest for a CCAA Tournament crown on Thursday as the Cougars enter NCAA Division II postseason for the first time in program history. Also on Thursday, the CSUSM men's basketball continues their nonconference schedule with a home game against West Coast Baptist.

CHICO STATE
  • Junior outside hitter Lauren Lee notched her first of three triple-doubles (15d, 12k, 9a) to lead the Cougars to a 3-1 victory (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21) over Chico State in their CCAA home opener on Sept. 22 in The Sports Center. CSUSM out-blocked the Wildcats, 12-5, in the contest.
  • Chico concluded its 2017 regular season with back-to-back three-set losses to Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay.
  • The Wildcats rank second in the CCAA in service aces with 1.58 per set.
  • Chico State's go-to hitter is sophomore outside hitter Bekah Boyle who is averaging 2.92 kills per set.
 
CSUSM BREAKDOWN
  • CSUSM ended the regular season with the third best conference record in the CCAA and had wins over the top two teams, Sonoma State and Cal State San Bernardino.
  • The Cougars continue to lead the CCAA and ranks 19th in the nation with a 2.34 block per set average. CSUSM is also holding opponents to a .158 attack percentage, second-best in the conference.
  • Junior middle blocker Faith Fortuné is CCAA's block leader and 14th in the nation with a 1.27 block per set average.
  • Freshman libero Grecia Cordero-Barr continues to lead the CCAA in digs, averaging 4.82 per set, and has moved up to No. 3 in service aces with .37 per set average.

WEST COAST BAPTIST
  • This will be just the second meeting between the two teams. CSUSM won the lone meeting 93-68 on Jan. 31, 2017.
  • In the last meeting, senior forward Josh Spiers led the team with 18 points while senior guard Ethan Alvano recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists.
  • The Eagles snapped a four-game losing streak to start the season with a 73-66 win over ULA at home on Nov. 9.
 
CSUSM BREAKDOWN
  • CSUSM went 1-1 this past weekend at the CCAA/PacWest Conference Challenge held inside The Sports Center.
  • The Cougars took down Biola on Friday night, 84-57, before dropping to Concordia Irvine, 103-86, the following night.
  • Senior Ethan Alvano set a school scoring record with his 42-point performance on Saturday against CUI. He finished 15-of-21 from the field with five assists and three steals.
  • As a team, CSUSM is averaging 85 points per game and shooting 51.4 percent (55-of-107) from the field including 21-of-40 (52.5 percent) from 3-point land.

THIS WEEK
  • The CSUSM women's cross country team will be making history on Saturday as the first program to officially compete in a NCAA Division II National Championship in school history.
  • With a fifth place finish at the West Regional, the Cougars were awarded an at-large bid to punch their ticket to nationals.
  • The top 40 runners in the race will receive NCAA Division II All-American honors.
 
LAST OUTING
  • The women's team took fifth at the NCAA West Regional Championships in Monmouth, Ore.
  • Senior Natalie Rodriguez and junior Lisa Flora each earning All-West Region honors after placing fifth and 13th, respectively.
 
 
USTFCCAA RANKINGS
  • The women's team remains at No. 14 in the latest USTFCCCA Top-25 national rankings.
  • The Cougars made their national ranking debut in the preseason poll at No. 22 and were No. 9 for two consecutive weeks.
