THIS WEEK:

• On Thursday, the Cougars once again play two matches in one day. CSUSM squares off against Holy Names at 9:30 a.m. before taking on Notre Dame de Namur at 5 p.m.  The Cougars face Academy of Art at 11:15 a.m. before concluding the tournament against Dominican on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
• The D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase will be played on six different CCAA campuses: Cal State East Bay (Hayward), Sonoma State (Rohnert Park), Stanislaus State (Turlock), San Francisco State (San Francisco), Cal State Dominguez Hills (Carson) and UC San Diego (La Jolla).

 
PREVIOUS WEEK:

• Cal State San Marcos Department of Athletics had the grand opening of their brand new facility, The Sports Center. The ribbon cutting for The Sports Center is slated for noon on Thursday, Sept. 1. 
• The Cougars defeated La Sierra in their first-ever match in their brand new home, The Sports Center. The final scores were 25-12, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-23. 
• CSUSM went 2-1 in the program's first-ever tournament, The CSUSM Cougar Classic. The Cougars registered a sweep over Johnson Wales on Friday, Sept. 2. CSUSM dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Westmont before rallying back to take a four-set victory over Fort Lewis in the tournament finale.

 
 
SOPHOMORE CAMPAIGN

• The 2016 season marks CSUSM's second season competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).
• CSUSM opens the season with the Cougar Classic, the first home tournament in program history.
• The Cougars second tournament of the season will be the D2 West Region Volleyball Showcase held at Cal State East Bay in Hayward, Calif.

 
THE CCAA CONFERENCE

• Cal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team CCAA Conference, made up of 12 Cal State institutions and UC San Diego
• The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.

 
THE LEONARD FILE

• Head coach Andrea Leonard enters her sixth season in charge of the Cougar volleyball team, a program she has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010.
• Entering this season, she has accumulated a 118-69 (.631) record at CSUSM that includes four Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Tournament Championships and four trips to the NAIA National Championships.
