SAN DIEGO – Senior

With the win, the Cougars improved to 8-3 overall while the Sea Lions dropped to 3-8.
"Tonight's match was a battle and we took another step forward in our ability to adjust and increase our offensive execution," said CSUSM head coach
Andrea Leonard. "I thought our defense showed poise and helped us transition a little quicker in the middle. I am so proud of this team, they are committed, determined and they play so hard for each other. Point Loma is a very good program and it was a battle to come out on top."
Butler tallied her third double-double of the season with the addition of 13 digs. Sophomore
Faith Fortune notched 10 kills on 21 attempts for a .381 attack percentage. Freshman
Aleese Wheaton dished out 47 assists and junior
Samantha Flores collected 20 digs on the night.
This was CSUSM's second consecutive five-set victory in the last four days. On Saturday, the Cougars collected their first CCAA win of the season with a
come-from-behind five-set thriller over Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Point Loma's Brianna Sizemore led all hitters with 17 kills.
The Cougars resume conference play on Saturday, Sept. 24 at UC San Diego. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
