ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team finished right where they started the day, taking fourth place at the Sonoma State Spring Invite on Tuesday afternoon at Foxtail Golf Club.
The Cougars recorded a 40-over 328 in the final round and wound up with a 36-hole total of 69-over 645. Overnight leader Chico State (616, +40) held on for a two-stroke victory over host Sonoma State (618, +42). SSU's 18-over 306 was the lowest round of the day. Simon Fraser took third at 56-over.
Joan Park led the Cougars with a 7-over 79 in Tuesday's round and was CSUSM's top finisher in a tie for 14
th at 16-over 160 (81-79) for the tournament.
Bergen Benedict shot 80,
Sarah Garcia had an 84 and
Taylor Coover carded an 85 to round out the Cougar scoring.
Victoria Smith, who started the day three back of the lead, posted 86. She tied for 17
th overall at 18-over 162 (76-86).
Garcia (79-84 – 163, +19) tied for 22
nd while Benedict (86-80- 166, +22) and Coover (81-85 – 166, +22) tied for 28
th.
The par-72, 5,986-yard track played to an average of 83.99 strokes during the tournament.
The Cougars have one more competition this season, April 22's Battle at the Bay hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay at Pacific Grove Golf Links in Pacific Grove, Calif.
