PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos women's golf team walked away with hardware in its final tournament of the 2015-16 season by taking down four other California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) institutions in the 18-hole, five-team Battle on the Bay at Pacific Grove Golf Links on Monday.
The Cougars shot 21-over 305 in wet, blistery conditions and took home the tournament title by five strokes over Sonoma State (310, +26). Host Cal State Monterey Bay (320, +36), Chico State (321, +37) and Cal State East Bay (332, +48) rounded out the tournament field.
Junior
Taylor Coover shot a season-best 1-over 72 to secure medalist honors, the second victory of her collegiate career and first since 2013. She won by three shots over Sarah Rotter (+4) of Sonoma State.
Freshman
Joan Park tied for third with four other players with a 76 (+5). Senior
Victoria Smith (+7) was eighth and freshman
Sarah Garcia (+7) tied for ninth. Freshman
Bergen Benedict (+13) tied for 22
nd.
The Cougars' 305 was their second-lowest round in relation to par during the spring season and was their lowest score since Mar. 1. CSUSM had finished runner-up in its previous three competitions.
