Allen, Horbasch Power Cougars to Pick-off Series Finale from Seawolves

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Abby Allen's first collegiate home run provided the difference as the Cal State San Marcos softball team won the series finale, 1-0, over Sonoma State on Saturday afternoon at Seawolf Field. SSU took down CSUSM 5-0 in game one and won the series 3-1.

CSUSM moves to 7-23 overall and 5-17 in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play. SSU is now 14-11 overall, 11-8 CCAA.

The Cougars return home to face San Francisco State in a four-game series next Friday and Saturday at CSUSM Softball Field. Saturday will be CSUSM's Senior Day.

Game 1
A five-run second inning spelled doom for the Cougars in Saturday's opening affair.

After a leadoff single, a pair of errors by the Cougars put runners in scoring position and Sarah Langley made the Cougars pay with a two-run single.

A throwing error by the Cougars on a stolen-base attempt caused another run before Alee Balanon and Carlie Daniel came through with RBIs to make it 5-0.

Caylyn Rodriguez was 2-for-3, but the Cougars managed only five hits.

Game 2
Allen got her first career start at first base and took advantage of the opportunity by going 2-for-3 and sending a home run the opposite way in the sixth inning for the game's only run.

Amanda Horbasch (4-12) struck out a career-high eight batters and allowed just three hits in the series finale.

Lindsy Cerulle, Sara Langdon and Rodriguez also notched hits for CSUSM.
