POMONA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team wrapped up the 2015-16 season with a 64-54 loss to No. 25 Cal Poly Pomona in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Saturday night at Kellogg Arena.
The Cougars finish their first season of NCAA Division II and CCAA competition with a 15-12 overall record and an 11-9 mark in the CCAA. CSUSM took sixth place in the conference standings and would have qualified for the CCAA Championship Tournament if eligible for postseason play.
CPP secured the No. 3-seed for the CCAA Championship Tournament with a record of 21-6, 14-6 CCAA.
CSUSM was held to a season-low 54 points on 28.6-percent shooting by CPP. The Cougars' 3-0 lead to start the game was their only advantage of the night and the Broncos led throughout the final 36:03.
Andrew Bournes led the Cougars with a game-high 15 points, while
Darnell Taylor contributed 14 points, six boards and four assists.
Akachi Okugo added 12 points.
Jordan Faison led the Broncos with 13 points.
Five CSUSM seniors – Taylor, Okugo,
Declan Daly,
Ben Dickinson and
Taran Brown – suited up for the last time as Cougars.
