SAN MARCOS, Calif. – Despite serving up a season-best 11 aces, the Cal State San Marcos volleyball squad dropped a five-set heartbreaker on Senior Day against California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) foe UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon. Final scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-14, 13-25 and 7-15.
The Cougars conclude their 2016 campaign with a 15-11 overall record and 8-9 in conference action. The Tritons (13-12, 10-7 CCAA) continue their season on Thursday, competing in the CCAA Volleyball Tournament hosted by Cal State San Bernardino.
"I am so incredibly proud of this team, this season and our seniors," said CSUSM head coach
Andrea Leonard. "We once again showed dominating moments that epitomize our program and our future! We put ourselves in a position to win and that is a huge turnaround from last year. We achieved so many goals this season and continue to reach for the stars. This has been a monumental season and has been historical for us to set the pace for the future.

Freshman
Madi Anderson tallied her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with lucky number 13 in both kills and digs. Freshman
Maddy Newcombe recorded 11 kills, four blocks and four aces in the contest. Senior
Brooke Butler added nine kills and four digs. Freshman
Aleese Wheaton dished out 45 assists while accumulating 18 digs.
UCSD's Meagan Wright and Simone Froley each registered 12 kills in the match.
CSUSM says goodbye to four-year letterwinners
