SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team ended the 2016 season with a 2-1 loss at Cal State San Bernardino in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play on Saturday afternoon at Premier Field.
The Cougars finish the year with a 5-6-4 overall mark and a 4-4-4 record in CCAA play. CSUSM placed ninth in the final CCAA standings with 16 points, more than double the next team in the table, Cal State East Bay.
CSUSB guarantees itself a place in the CCAA tournament with the victory. The Coyotes will take the fifth seed on 22 points with a 7-4-1 conference record and 9-5-1 mark overall.

Andrew Stalboerger opened the scoring with his fourth goal of the season, sending home a rebound from
Bryan Morrison in the 17
th minute.
However, CSUSB answered with two goals in the second half. Kieron Coleman scored in the 47
th before Diego Casillas provided the game winner in the 84
th from the penalty spot.

Justin Tesar recorded seven saves in the loss. Tesar finishes with a total of 68 saves on the year, which breaks
Zach Sheppard's previous mark of 65 (2013).
CSUSB outshot the Cougars 21-9.
Next season, barring any setbacks, the Cougars will be eligible for the CCAA and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments if CSUSM achieves full NCAA DII status during the summer of 2017. 2016-17 is the final year of the NCAA Division II transition process.
