RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos softball team fell in both ends of a doubleheader, 16-3 (5 inn.) and 8-0 (6 inn.), to Cal Baptist on Saturday afternoon at John C. Funk Stadium.
A bases-clearing double by
Melyssa Bellamy handed the Cougars a 3-0 lead in the top of the first in game one, but it'd be the last time CSUSM would score on the day. The Lancers scored seven runs in their first-at bat and their offensive output never ceased.
The Cougars drop to 2-2 overall while the Lancers improve to 2-0.
Breanna Stiles went 1-for-3 with a run scored in game one.
Brogan Hoenisch and
Tayler Ybarra both went 1-for-2.
CBU scored in all six innings of game two.
CSUSM had three hits in the second game.
Rylee Johnson and
Amanda Horbasch each doubled.
Ashley Dagenais (1-1) was dealt the loss in game one and Horbasch (1-1) earned the loss in game two.
The Cougars will head to Concordia (Calif.) to take on the Eagles next Friday before hosting their first home doubleheader of the season on Sunday, Feb. 7 against St. Martin's.
