AVONDALE, Ariz. – Joan Park's even-par 72 highlighted the Cal State San Marcos women's golf team's final round of the Western New Mexico Fall Invite on Tuesday afternoon at Coldwater Golf Club.
The Cougars shot 16-over 304 to finish in an eighth-place tie with a total of 27-over 603 (299-304) in the two-day, 20-team competition. Cal Baptist (280-287 – 567, -9) won the tournament by three strokes over St. Mary's (288-282 – 570, -6).
CSUSM, using four freshmen in its top five, held its own in its inaugural competition as an NCAA Division II participant.
Park made five birdies and played her final nine in 1-under par to move into a tie for 31
st overall at 4-over 148. She also tied for fifth in the 104-player field with eight birdies in the tournament.

Marisa Bhanubandh provided a 2-over 74 in Tuesday's final round and tied for 35
th at 5-over 149.

Victoria Smith rounded out the scoring with 79's. Smith tied for 51
st at 9-over 153 while Garcia tied for 61
st at 11-over 155.
"It was a pretty good showing to start the year off, especially using four freshman," said CSUSM head coach
Greg Hutton. "Joan did well to bounce back after some trouble early in her round, and I thought everyone played well with the pressure of knowing that their score would count."
Bergen Benedict, who shot 2-over 74 in her first collegiate round yesterday, was forced to miss the final round due to illness.
Caroline Ordian of Redlands took individual medalist honors by two strokes after an even-par 72. Her 8-under 64 yesterday gave her enough cushion over runner-ups Regina Gonzalez and Kelly Contreras of St. Mary's.
The Cougars' next competition is Oct. 12-13 in the Western Washington Fall Invite in Bellingham, Wash.
