HSU Breakdown: After collecting a victory over the Cougars, the Lumberjacks dropped a five-set heartbreaker (22-25, 25-22, 13-25, 25-23, 14-16) at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, Sept. 17. HSU rounded out its road trip by being swept (24-26, 22-25, 27-29) at Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday, Sept. 19.

CSUEB Breakdown: CSUEB is also seeking its first CCAA victory after dropping two matches last week. The Pioneers were swept (11-25, 15-25, 16-25) at Chico State on Tuesday before falling in four (17-25, 17-25, 25-22, 17-25) at SF State on Saturday.
Last Weekend RecapCSUSM began its inaugural CCAA season facing three teams that finished in the top six in the 2014 conference standings. The Cougars battled Humboldt State in their home opener on Wednesday, falling in four (19-25, 25-23, 25-27, 20-25) despite out-blocking the Lumberjacks 9-5. The Tritons of UC San Diego made quick work with a three-set victory (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) over CSUSM after coming into Hunter Gym Thursday with momentum after sweeping No. 14 Cal State San Bernardino two nights prior. The Cougars came out with a new energy on Saturday, taking the first set away from CSUSB before falling in four (29-27, 21-25, 17-25, 21-25) to one of the nation's top programs.

Andrea Leonard enters her fifth season in charge of the Cougar women's volleyball team, a program she has built from the ground up since arriving on campus in 2010. Entering this season, she has accumulated and 112-46 (.709) record at CSUSM that included four Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) Conference Tournament Championships and four trips to the NAIA National Championships.
New TerritoryAfter nine seasons of competition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Cougars enter their first season of NCAA Division II competition in 2015. CSUSM is currently in the second year of a three-year transition to full NCAA Division II membership. As a part of the transition, the Cougars will be ineligible for postseason play in 2015 and 2016.
New ConferenceCal State San Marcos is a part of the 13-team
California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), made up of 12 CSU institutions and UC San Diego. The CCAA is one of the premier NCAA Division II leagues in the nation. Its teams have won more national championships (153) than any other conference.
