SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team fell in straight sets to visiting UC San Diego (25-17, 25-18, 25-20) at Hunter Gym on Thursday night. UCSD (6-4, 2-0 CCAA) out-hit CSUSM .312 to .155 for the match, with four Tritons hitting over .300.

Freshman
Lauren Lee led the Cougars with 11 kills and a .688 clip. Junior
Brooke Butler added 10 kills, and senior
Lauren Hays notched 18 assists and 11 digs.
The first set featured seven ties and three lead changes. After a four-point run put UCSD up 11-8, the Cougars fought back to even the score at 14-14 on a kill by
Jordan Banich. The Tritons turned on the offense to pull away with a 6-0 run and eventually took set one, 25-17.
CSUSM lead throughout the second set until reaching the 17-point mark when the Tritons passed the Cougars with a 10-1 run to win 25-18.
The third set was a repeat of the second as CSUSM jumped out to a 10-7 lead capped by a Lee kill. A 7-1 run put the Tritons on top as they cruised to a 25-20 win to clinch the sweep.
The Cougars (3-7, 0-2 CCAA) close out their three-game home stand on Saturday, Sept. 19, hosting No. 14 Cal State San Bernardino at 2 p.m.
