No. 11 CSUSM No-hits Hope International in Sweep

FULLERTON, Calif. – Ashley Dagenais and Katie Wilkinson combined for a no-hitter, Holly Fauria put together two strong performances, and the No. 11 Cal State San Marcos softball team earned its first doubleheader sweep since Feb. 23 with 6-0 and 9-1 victories over Hope International on Wednesday at Fullerton College.

Dagenais and Wilkinson paired for the second combined no-hitter and the 10th overall no-no in program history as the Cougars cruised in game one. Dagenais threw the first five innings and Wilkinson closed the final two frames.

Fauria, inserted into the lineup last week, went 5-for-9 and accounted for four runs on the afternoon.

CSUSM improves to 25-10 overall and will face No. 14 Vanguard in Costa Mesa on Thursday afternoon. The Cougars split with the Lions, 4-2 and 3-7 (5 inn.), in San Marcos on Feb. 27.

Hope International drops to 8-39 overall.

Game 1
Robyn Alvara kept the momentum from yesterday's game-winning three-run home run in an upset over No. 3 Concordia, registering three RBI as the Cougar pitching staff combined for a no-hitter in a 6-0 game-one victory.

Alvara had RBI singles in the first and fourth innings before adding a sacrifice fly that scored Fauria in the sixth inning.

Dagenais (12-6) struck out a pair and walked four before giving way for Wilkinson in the top of the sixth. Wilkinson worked the final two innings, allowing just a walk and recording one strikeout. It was the second no-hitter that Dagenais has played a part of this season, after her solo no-no on Feb. 17, also against Hope International.

Naomi Amu had a pair of RBI singles and Amanda Meek doubled to center in the sixth inning to drive in Sarah Quiambao and give the Cougars their final tally.

Fauria was 3-for-5 with three runs scored in game one.

Game 2
Hope International jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in game two, but RBI singles by Devin Vanderhoff and Lindsay Cerulle in the second inning handed the Cougars the lead and CSUSM didn't look back en route to a 9-1 game-two victory.

Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Olivia Lucatuorto doubled down the line to drive in a run before scoring on an error off the bat of Quiambao to make it 4-1.

Caylyn Rodriguez and Amu each drove in a runs with RBI base hits before Lucatuorto added her second RBI of the game with a groundout to the right side in the sixth.

In the seventh, Fauria's base-hit scored Sara Langdon and Cerulle got into the act with an RBI triple that made it 9-1.

Wilkinson allowed just one hit and one earned run while matching her season-high with six strikeouts.
