LA JOLLA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's basketball team rallied back from an 11-point second-half deficit to take the lead with 1:04 remaining, but could not hold on for a victory against No. 11 UC San Diego on Sunday afternoon in California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) play at RIMAC Arena. The Tritons prevailed, 69-65.
The Cougars drop to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in CCAA competition, while UCSD improves to 9-1 and 4-0.
Andrew Bournes gave CSUSM its first lead since the 8:25 mark of the first half when he drained a 3-pointer with 64 seconds left in regulation to make it 65-64 in favor of the Cougars.
Drew Dyer put UCSD back ahead 66-65 with a jumper off a Triton offensive rebound with 22 seconds left.
Then, with 14 seconds remaining, Dyer fouled
Nik Brown and gave the CSUSM guard a chance to retake the lead. However, Brown could not convert either free shot.
George Bukaku then made 2-of-2 from the stripe to make it 68-65 UCSD with 11 seconds remaining.

Ben Dickinson was fouled with six seconds left, but the forward missed both. Chris Hansen sealed the game with one final free throw with four seconds left.
Darnell Taylor paced the Cougars with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds. He added four steals. Big man
Declan Daly tallied 13 points, pulled down nine rebounds and registered a season-high six blocks.
Dyer scored 19 and Hansen chipped in 13 for the Tritons.
The Cougars move on to face Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson on Dec. 31.
