Cougars Triumphant in Season Finale Against Embry-Riddle, 2-0

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team took down Embry-Riddle (Fla.), 2-0, in its 2015 season finale in non-conference play at The Cougar Den.

Oscar Gonzalez and Dustin Scibilia each found the back of the net as the Cougars concluded their first season of competition in NCAA Division II and the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with a 7-8-2 overall record (4-7-1 CCAA).

"Senior Day has always been an interesting day because it is always filled with heavy emotion," said head coach Ron Pulvers. "There is pressure on the returning players to play well for the seniors and the seniors themselves to play well in their last game. The team showed up today, played great and I am so proud of each one of them."

Gonzalez knocked in his first goal of the season to put CSUSM up 1-0 in the 38th minutes. Luka Stevanovic touched around the ERU defender and went down the line before crossing the ball to Gonzalez who tapped it past the keeper.

The Cougars extended their lead in the second half in the 71st minute when Scibilia took a cross from Eddie Guerra and buried it inside the near post on the left side. It was Scibilia's third goal of the season.

CSUSM goalkeeper Zach Sheppard concluded his collegiate career with his 15th shutout, extending the school record he set earlier this season.

Prior to the game, Sheppard, Scibilia, Stevanovic, Ryan Kisgen, Landon Sherwood, Yuki Hata, Thor English and Parker Radford were the seniors honored.

"The guys who finished their careers here, what a great group of guys, first and foremost," Pulvers said. "They had great careers here as soccer goes and they are going to go on and do wonderful things that will reflect what they did here on campus and on the athletic field."
