COSTA MESA, Calif. – Evan Myers scored off
Diego Fontes' corner kick in the 108
th minute to lift the Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team to a double-overtime, 1-0 victory over Vanguard on Wednesday afternoon.
Less than two minutes from time, Myers pounded home a rebound to lift the Cougars to 2-0 overall on the young season. Vanguard drops to 2-1.
Zach Sheppard made five saves and secured his first clean sheet of the year.
CSUSM was out-shot on the afternoon 22-20, but tallied nine shots in the extra periods compared with just five for the Lions. The Cougars had a 6-1 edge in shots in the second overtime.
The Cougars travel to face Pomona-Pitzer on Friday afternoon.
