SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team travels to Northern California to compete in the UC Merced Holiday Inn Express Volleyball Invitational this weekend.  The Cougars will have another showdown against two previous 2014 opponents, Warner Pacific and Southern Oregon.

CSUSM's UC Merced Invitational History
The Cougars competed in UC Merced's tournament for the first time last season, racking up a 4-0 record with sweeps over West Coast Baptist and UC Merced while accumulating four-set wins against Northwest Christian and Oregon Tech.  
 
Warner Pacific Breakdown
All-time record vs. WPU: 1-0
Last Meeting: The Cougars opened the 2014 season with a three-set sweep over the Knights on Aug. 15. Junior Jordan Banich tallied her first double-double of the season with 13 kills and 10 digs.
2014 Season: WPU has since competed in two scrimmages since then against Pacific University (Ore.) and Grays Harbor College. 
 
San Diego Christian Breakdown
All-time record vs. SDCU: 8-0
Last meeting:  For the first time in the series history against SDCU, the Cougars went five sets to capture a win with the final score 20-18. Senior Erin Talafus led the Cougars with 16 kills and eight blocks.
2013 Season: The Hawks concluded their 2013 season with a 6-22, dropping their final three matches to nationally-ranked teams.
 
Southern Oregon Breakdown
All-time record vs. SOU: 2-1
Last meeting: The Cougars dropped a four-set match to Southern Oregon in their opening game of the Biola Summer Slam last week.  Senior Alyssa Hubbard had a team-high 12 kills while sophomore Taylor Harris collected 14 digs with her 33 assists.
2014 Season: The Raiders began their 2014 campaign with a 3-1 record at the Biola Summer Slam that included a sweep over No. 22 Vanguard.  Their lone loss was against No. 2 Concordia in their final match. 
 
William Jessup Breakdown
All-time record vs. WJU: 6-0
Last Meeting: After dropping the first set 25-18, the Cougars answered with a vengeance by holding the Warriors to single digits at 25-8.  CSUSM went on to take the match in four sets behind senior Taylor DeGraaf's 11th double-double of the season (22 kills and 16 digs).
2013 Season: The Warriors have competed in one match prior to the Holiday Inn Express Invitational, a five-set heartbreaker against visiting Corban (Ore.).  
 
UC Merced Breakdown
All-time record vs. UCM: 4-0
Last Meeting: CSUSM posted two sweeps over the Bobcats in 2013.  At the home match on Sept. 20th, DeGraaf hit .591 with 14 kills while senior Kelli McLin collected 17 digs.
2014 Season: UC Merced hosted a doubleheader against Oregon Tech on Aug. 23, dropping both matches in five sets to the Owls.
