Live VideoSeason Outlook - Part 2 of 2: The UnderclassmenThe Cougar volleyball freshman and sophomore classes will play a vital role as Cal State San Marcos makes the transition to NCAA Division II. They have an opportunity to close CSUSM's NAIA experience on a high note and then come strong out of the gates against NCAA opponents their final three seasons.Â
Â
"We are really excited about this year's underclassmen," said head coach
Andrea Leonard. "They bring a wealth of experience and are all eager to contribute."
Â
The CSUSM sophomore class is comprised of
Brooke Butler,
Rachel Hadley,
Taylor Harris,
Markisha Henderson-Diaz,
Jordan McFarland and
Morgan Willis. With injuries galore last season, the rookies started a combine average of 23 matches with Henderson-Diaz appearing in all 38 matches. Â
Â
"Our sophomores now have a year of experience playing ranked teams and that will help a lot this season," Leonard said. "They felt the disappointment of when we narrowly missed going to Sioux City and will use that at motivation."
Â
The four freshmen beginning their collegiate career at CSUSM are
Samantha Flores,
Ashley Kaylor,
Kristin Parker and
Cheyenne Richards.
Â
"The incoming freshman class brings a ton of talent and readiness to the court," Leonard said. Â "They come from solid club and high school programs and should help us make an impact with our potential."
The Cougars will begin their 2014 campaign tomorrow at Warner Pacific with first serve at 1 p.m.
