OCEANSIDE, Calif.— Both of the Cal State San Marcos track and field teams added another member to its traveling squad for the NAIA National Championships this May in Gulf Shores, Ala., as distance runners
Daniel Ybarra and
Lauren Cortez each hit the NAIA "A" standard in Sal Luis Rey River Half-Marathon.
Since the effects of running a marathon may take several weeks or more to recover, the Cougar harriers were able to qualify for nationals in the event by hitting set times in the half-marathon.
Biola's Danny Ledesma was the race winner in 1:10:49, with Ybarra second in 1:11:28. Cortez was the top female finisher in 1:29:01.
Saul Oros also competed for the Cougars, running 1:18:28.
The Cougars track and field team's next scheduled race is the Mt. Sac Invitational, taking place April 17-19 in Walnut, Calif.
