ResultsCLAREMONT, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos track and field teams had another solid week of competition, setting several new team leading marks Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
Maurice Strickland once again displayed his immense talents versatility, hitting the NAIA "A" standard in the 400m hurdles in his first time running the event at the collegiate level. His mark of 53.31 currently stands as the fourth best time in the NAIA this season.
More impressively, Strickland also qualified for Nationals in his fourth event, and ranks in the Top-8 in all four. The senior from San Diego is ranked second in the decathlon with 6,924 points, fifth in the 110m hurdles with a mark of 14.30, and eighth in the 400m with a time of 48.26.
On top of these accomplishments, Strickland now has the best mark for CSUSM in nine different events.
Another impressive performance on the men's side came from freshman
Justin Washington, who has set a personal best in the 800 each time he's run the event this season. Washington shaved almost a second off his time and is now down to 1:56.17.
For the women,
Calah Ayer hit the "B" standard in the pole vault with a mark of 3.50m, or 11' 5.75". She currently stands at ninth in the NAIA in the event, as does
Michelle Cruz in the 800m after her performance of 2:14.65 Saturday.
Freshman hurdler
Jessica Toliver won her heat of the 400m hurdles in 65.31, setting a new personal best in the process.
Mid-distance runner
Charlotte Kuzminsky made the jump up to the 1500m with ease, hitting the "B" standard in 4:42.44, winning her heat as well.
Brianna Gibas set a new team season best in the 400m in 58.05— a good sign for the 4x400 relay team that looks to be a threat to score at nationals.
CSUSM will compete again Thursday-Saturday at the Mt. Sac Invitational in Walnut.
