There is No Place Like Home, Cougars Host No. 3 Concordia Tuesday

SAN MARCOS, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team returns home to host No. 3 Concordia (Calif.) on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. at Pacific Ridge School in Carlsbad.

Back Home Again!
The Cougars are back home again after wrapping up its first of two four-match road trips., CSUSM hosts Concordia (Oct. 7) and San Diego Christian (Oct. 14) with a trip to Hope International (Oct. 8) sandwiched in-between. The Cougars then once again hit the road for a three-match tournament hosted by The Master's College (Oct. 17-18) and conclude the road-trip at No. 6 Biola (Oct. 23).
 
Strong Presence In National Statistics 
The Cougars are ranked in six categories at the national level including Top 25 rankings in both total kills (No. 24 - 1009). total assists (No. 19 - 888). The other five rankings are: No. 27 in total assists (926), No. 28 in assists per game (11.680), No. 30 in hitting percentage (.214), No. 31 in kills per game (12.760) and No. 33 in total service aces (124). Senior Alyssa Foster and junior Jordan Banich also appear in the rankings.  Foster ranks No. 25 in total assists (735) and No. 26 assists per game (9.930).  Banich ranks No. 34 in kills per game (3.370).
 
Concordia Preview
All-time vs. Concordia: 0-7
Last time out: L, 3-0 at CUI (Sept. 24, 2014)
The Eagles are nearly perfect in 2014 at 16-1 with their lone loss a five-set thriller to then No. 17 Rocky Mountain College on Sept. 5 at the University of Great Falls Tournament in Helena, Mont. Since facing the Cougars on Sept. 24, Concordia collected a four-set victory against then No. 21 Vanguard before recording sweeps over San Diego Christian and Arizona Christian. As a team, the Eagles rank No. 1 in kills (14.810) and No. 3 in assists (13.470) per game.  Senior middle blocker Reanna Schelhaas ranks No. 9 with a .374 attack percentage.

Hope International Preview
All-time vs. HIU: 5-0
Last time out: W, 3-1 at HIU (Oct. 19, 2013)
The Royals snapped a five-match losing streak with back-to-back sweeps over San Diego Christian and William Jessup at home.  Last week, HIU dropped a three-set match at Westmont. Freshman Mikayla Derieg is averaging a team-best 3.02 kills per set on top of her 25 service aces.

West Coast Baptist Recap
The Cougars hit over .400 as a team (.432) for the second time this season, sweeping West Coast Baptist 25-23, 25-14 and 25-11 to conclude a four-game road trip. Senior Alyssa Hubbard joined freshmen Cheyenne Richards and Kristin Parker with eight kills apiece.
