Box Score 2 COSTA MESA, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos volleyball team kicked off the opening day of the Vanguard University Tournament with a four set 25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-10 victory over Hope International before falling to No. 4 Biola in straight sets 24-26, 20-25, 17-25
In the first match,
Taylor DeGraaf was the key for the Cougars, recording a game best 27 kills with a .460 hitting percentage. Her kill total was the second most in school history for a four set match, falling just short of her own school record of 29 set earlier this season against Oregon Tech. DeGraaf added 11 digs as well for her third double-double in her last five games.
Defensively,
Kelli McLin doubled her career best in digs with 22, leading all players.
Alyssa Foster had a game best 44 assists to go along with four service aces, three kills, and eight digs.
CSUSM held tough throughout most their match against Biola, similar to their loss against No. 1 Concordia earlier in the week, but were unable to break through to pick up a set. It was just the second time the Cougars have lost in straight sets this season.
Stats are currently unavailable from the Biola match, but will be posted as soon as they are made available.
After the win and loss Friday, CSUSM now stands at 13-6 on the season. The Cougars will play two more times in the tournament Saturday, facing host No. 19 Vanguard at 3:00 pm and former A.I.I. rival La Sierra at 7:00 pm.
