CSUSM Blanked at Fresno Pacific

Sunbirds control match and deal Cougars a 3-0 loss

FRESNO, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Fresno Pacific in non-conference play on Wednesday evening at Ramirez Field.

The Sunbirds scored twice in the first half and added another just after the halftime break to provide a comfortable cushion the rest of the way.

CSUSM drops to 8-4-2 on the year.

Gustavo Silva finished a rebound off Jorge Chedraui's shot to make it 1-0 before Renato Bustamante redirected Nick Watson's flick to put FPU (9-4-1) up two in the 25th minute. Alvardo Nogales then headed home Eric Velarde's corner kick in the 48th minute to complete the scoring.

CSUSM was outshot 18-13 and placed just three shots on frame. Diego Fontes provided a bit of firepower for the Cougars, tallying four shots on the day.

The Cougars have two matches remaining in the regular season. On Saturday, seniors Richie Kaiser and Panos Kotselas will be honored for their years of service to the team prior to CSUSM's home finale against Westminster at 2:00 p.m. at Mangrum Soccer Field.

Head coach Ron Pulvers will also be looking to notch his 200th career win coaching collegiate men's soccer. His current record stands at  199-119-27 over 18 seasons – eight at CSUSM and 10 at Baker (Kan.).
