Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES — The No. 10 ranked Cal State San Marcos volleyball team closed out play in the Cal Poly Pomona Tournament Saturday with a pair of victories over Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles.
The Cougars swept Dominguez Hills in straight sets 25-23, 25-22, 27-25, and won a back and forth battle with Cal State LA 25-20, 26-28, 25-20, 14-25, 18-16.
CSUSM was led in the first match by outside hitter
Taylor DeGraaf who tallied a game-high 16 kills, and
Brittany Thompson added 5 kills and 6 blocks.
In the evening match against Cal State LA, both teams traded the lead like a see-saw, as the game featured 16 lead changes and 35 ties. In the fifth set, the Cougars faced match point but
Lindsey Mitchell hit her game high 20
th kill to tie the score at 15-15. After a service error gave CSULA another chance to clinch the match,
Taylor DeGraaf recorded back-to-back kills to give the Cougars match point of their own.
The Cougars did not pass on this opportunity, clinching the game on a
Brittany Thompson service ace after two hours and 18 minutes of play.
Lindsey Mitchell (20 kills, 15 digs),
Taylor DeGraaf (14 kills, 16 digs), and setter
Alyssa Foster (10 kills, 57 assists, nine digs) each recorded double-doubles, with Foster just missing a triple-double by a single dig.
The Cougars (13-5) will have two days to rest before their much anticipated home opener Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm against No. 2 Concordia (Calif.). The match will take place at nearby Escondido High School.
