Escondido, Calif.— The Cal State San Marcos women's volleyball team bounced back from a tough five set match Friday to defeat the UC Merced Bobcats at home Saturday at Escondido High School. The Cougars earned the victory in straight sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-17.
Sophomore outside hitter
Taylor DeGraaf set the tone from the first set, slamming balls with authority all evening en route to a game-high 21 kills and a
shiny .474 hitting percentage.
Lindsey Mitchell added 10 kills for the Cougars, and
Kelli McLin had an excellent game as well with eight kills in 10 attempts.
Setter
Alyssa Foster recorded 45 assists and nine digs, and libero
Nichole May led all players with 20 digs. The Cougars hit .390 on the match as a team, the best percentage the Cougars have recorded all season. UC Merced stayed close throughout though, keeping the game close until near the end of the final set.
With the win, CSUSM improves to 15-8 on the season. The Cougars play next Wednesday at home against conference rival La Sierra at 8:00pm. CSUSM defeated La Sierra in the A.I.I. Championship last year, but will look to avenge a loss to the Golden Eagles in Riverside earlier this season.
