COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Cal State San Marcos men's soccer team fell in overtime, 1-0, to Vanguard on Saturday afternoon at Vanguard Soccer Field.
VU's Brandon Castle played a long throw into the box and Andrew Sullivan punched it in with a header in the 96
th minute to provide the game-winner for the Lions.
CSUSM moves to 1-4-2 on the season while Vanguard improves to 2-5-2.
“I thought it was a complete performance from us, we were just on the wrong side of the result,” said CSUSM head coach
Ron Pulvers. “We really carried the game, but we didn't finish our chances in the run of play despite having some great opportunities.”
CSUSM placed two of its nine shots on-frame compared to five of 12, respectively, for Vanguard.

Ryan VanDenburg each had a look at goal.
After a 1-1 tie against No. 18 Biola and the loss against the Lions this week, CSUSM has a week off before heading to Salt Lake City to play a pair of neutral-site contests against Association of Independent Institutions opponent No. 17 Ashford (Iowa) and Trinity Lutheran (Wash.).
